My Bookshelf: I am Pilgrim

I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes

After finishing Gone Girl and The Cuckoo's Calling I well and truly had the crime thriller bug and so off to Waterstones I went to stock up.

I thought I had made my choice until on my way to the till another book caught my eye. A simple scan over the back cover and I added it to my pile. I knew I'd made the right decision as soon as I took it to the cash desk. The cashier had just finished reading it the night before and literally couldn't contain his excitement as he proceeded to spend the next five minutes explaining how unbelievably good it was and how he was jealous of me now reading it for the first time.

I'm not particularly the quickest reader and at a hefty 881 pages I thought it would take me aaaaaaaages to get through it. But I couldn't put it down, much to the annoyance of my fiancé I'm sure, as I ignored him completely on more than a few occasions. Sorry!

The protagonist of the story is the adopted son of a wealthy family who once headed up a secret unit for US intelligence. He uses the name Pilgrim in order to hide his real identity and is one of the best agents that his agency has seen.

The story is a compelling one and the writing beautifully detailed. What begins as a challenging murder investigation quickly turns into a desperate race against time that keeps the plot moving quickly along with the turning of the pages.

The plot is intelligent and action-packed and for those that love 24, Homeland and the Bourne series then this is definitely a book for you.

I don't really want to give any of the story away so I'll just end with the few lines that helped sway my decision to read.

A young woman murdered in a run-down Manhattan hotel.
A father publicly beheaded in the blistering sun of Saudi Arabia.
A man's eyes stolen from his living body as he leaves a secret Syrian research laboratory.
Smouldering human remains on a mountainside in the Hindu Kush
A plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity.
One thread that binds them all.
One man to take the journey.
Pilgrim.

Just a quick post today to show off the ASOS mules that I got in the sale for a bargain £22 which I LOVE with a capital L!

Bravo ASOS, you always know how to deliver.

Field Trip

Last summer I told myself that I would make it my mission to get to more festivals. So far this year I've been to one which means I've pretty much failed in that cause…oops. Better luck next year!

Anyway, as festival season is now in full swing I thought I would share a few of my favourite festival looks for a bit of inspiration. I personally think you can't go wrong with some denim cut-offs, fringed tops, a fedora and lots of jewellery. What are your festival essentials?

The White Stripes

Top: Next | Trousers: Zara | Shoes: Topshop | Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Sunglasses: Chanel

I'm seriously loving these Zara slacks at the moment. These were actually a sale buy from last winter but with the temperatures now on the rise they're light enough to keep me cool when I'm out despite the black.

I've teamed them with this striped tee that I bought in Next a few months ago which usually isn't a shop I would ever go in, but after seeing this through the window as I was passing it made me pop in. For only £16 it's a great quality staple piece that I'm sure will get tones of wear.

Also, excuse the hair in these photos. I've still got a few more bleaching sessions before it's finished!

Latest Buys: Accessories

So I thought I would just share a few of my latest accessory buys starting with these cat eye sunglasses from ASOS. I love how a pair of sunglasses can really change an outfit and I'd been looking for a new pair for a while. When I spied these online I fell in love with the tortoise shell design and for a cool £12 I thought I would give them a go. Thankfully my oval face shape means that I do tend to suit most frame shapes and this pair looked great. They're definitely an easy way to add a bit of a retro feel to any outfit.

| H&M Chain Shoulder Bag |

I'd seen this bag on a few blogs recently and thought it was so versatile. The size makes it perfect for both day and night and I will definitely be using mine when I go out for dinner with the fiancé.

As some of you may know, I've gone a bit crazy for the holographic trend lately so when I saw these beauties in Office a purchase had to be made. After buying some of the Topshop slip ons and them ripping my feet to sheds I was a bit nervous as to whether these would do the same but I have to say they are extremely comfortable. They also go with so much so I think these will be getting a lot of wear this summer.

What I'm Dreaming Of

Ok, so I was going to do an outfit post today until the heavens opened and put an end to that idea, so a good old wish list will have to do instead.

Now I love a bit of sun as much as the next person but Spring/Summer fashion just doesn't cut it for me. I'm more of a black, leather and wool kinda gal…all of which unfortunately make for an uncomfortable and sticky situation when sat out in the heat. So Autumn/Winter will alway reign supreme with me and although we're only just into July, I've already found myself dreaming of my new winter wardrobe purchases.

After a few hours spent perusing the pages of Net-a-Porter I felt I should share some of my favourite finds with you all. Enjoy!

So Mattifying

So we all know that the matte nail trend is nothing new but I am obsessed with it at the moment. I'd been searching for a black matte varnish for the past month whenever I went into my local boots store, but alas, to no avail!

However, I did come across this wonderful mattifying top coat from Bourjois which I bought along with a black varnish (Essie in Licorice to be exact) and I am so pleased that I went with this. The frosted finish was exactly what I was looking for and now I can use it with all my other colours too. Perfect!
